The NOSD advocate spirituality as a forth dimension of the
sustainable Development besides economic, social and environmental.
Unless society restore its ethical and high moral values with
low energy consumption pattern, it would not be possible to
attain sustainable development.
At the heart of this conception is the understanding that
human nature is fundamentally spiritual and that spiritual
principles provide an enormous motivational power for brining
about positive social change. This means initiating efforts
to create a new, value based approach to development.
In India and other countries, worship of natural resources
like sun, earth, air, trees, animals, water resources are
part of their tradition. Over period of time, it has become
now ritual without sentiments. Today, human greed for short
gain has undermine its needs. Moral values have degenerated
in the society. Stress life is giving birth to new diseases.
There is no sign of ending this process. In the search of
wealth and status by any and all means, human has lost peace
of mind. Now he is looking for alternate remedy. A possible
way to restore peace and harmony with all nature creature
is spirituality.
An abundance of such resources exist in all major religions
today. A growing understanding of spirituality being intimately
connected to and located within nature bodes well for the
mediation of human existence and nature. This approach of
peaceful coexistence also augurs well for future cooperation
between ecological groups and advocate social justice. The
ultimate aim of this initiative would be to place spiritual
principles at the heart of the development. There is need
to bring Peace, Cooperation, Altruism, Dignity, Rectitude
of conduct and justice in the society which requires both
the “light” of spiritual awareness and the “lamp”
of material resources. In future NOSD would concentrate on
the forth dimension of the development in its project by developing
workable indicators.
